Research center for video

At the research centre, we investigate the ecologies of development and use of video conferences and video-based productions in organizational and educational learning contexts.

At the Research Center for Video, we explore the use of video technologies (understood broadly as video, audio, visuals (sketches and animations), as well as immersive such as AR, VR and MR) for learning in organizational and educational settings. We work to identify potentials and barriers of video technology, when used in processes that support learning, creativity, and enabling individuals, groups, and organizations to learn, reflect, create, share knowledge and develop their competencies locally, regionally, and globally.

At the research center, we explore the question: How can utilizing video technologies support reflection, creativity, and the engagement of learners in individual and collaborative knowledge construction processes?

The center has adopted a pragmatic approach where companies, researchers, and students collaborate in understanding, identifying, and creating effective and meaningful ways to facilitate collaboration and learning situations utilizing video technologies. Video technologies enable both synchronous activities (i.e., at the same time but not the same place) and asynchronous activities (i.e., neither at the same time nor at the same place). Such activities include meetings and learning activities (fully distributed and hybrid formats), use of video technologies to gain insight into topics or lessons learned, use of video technologies to gain insight into one's own or shared processes as well as dissemination.

The research objective of the center is to investigate how video technologies in situations involving collaboration and learning (formal, non-formal and organizational) interplay with different types of organizations thereby gaining knowledge about important/non-important factors, how factors relate to each other and identifying potentials, barriers and effects when applying and implementing such video technologies. This is carried out both through research into methodologies regarding the use of video technologies as well as research into practical application and implementation of video technologies.

The Research Center for Video is based at Aalborg University, Campus Copenhagen. The participating researchers come from the ResearchLab: IT and Learning Design (ILD).

The center is led by Rikke Ørngreen.

The Research Center for Video is affiliated with L-ILD (the IT and Learning Design research group) and ILD-lab (Research Laboratory for IT and Learning Design).
